Plant a tree for life...
Friday, December 19, 2008 at 09:50AM In recent years, reducing carbon emissions has become one of the defining issues of our age and The Carbon Managers are an independent organisation at the forefront of providing companies and individuals with advice and solutions to a global problem that affects us all.
Founded in 2007, The Carbon Managers are the UK’s leading carbon footprint, labeling and incentive scheme specialists and the people behind the recent initiative to fund the planting of 100,000 trees in the Northern Highlands of Scotland which has been covered extensively during the current BBC 2 documentary ‘The Real Monarch of the Glen.’
Central to The Carbon Managers approach to tackling carbon emissions and global warming is their unique ‘Trees 4 Business’ campaign. Organisations can enhance their green credentials by pledging to becoming a ‘tree 100 company,’ a ‘tree 250 company’ or a ‘tree 500 company’ and are provided with an accreditation certificate, logos for marketing purposes such as company notepaper and web presence and have their commitment published on a readily-available public register.
Once planted, a company’s trees can also be allocated within its business in a variety of ways such as awarding them to members of staff for waste or energy saving initiatives, by giving away ‘trees with transactions’ to boost sales, or by using them in promotions to encourage customers to opt into schemes like green online billing service. Companies such as Viking direct, Canon, Skoda and Ericsson have already pledged their support for the campaign and according to The Carbon Manager’s Geremy Thomas “In today’s world of heightened environmental concern, customers and employees are increasingly attracted to companies with green credentials who can tangibly demonstrate they take environmental issues seriously.”
But the work of The Carbon Managers certainly doesn’t just begin and end with companies. Their ‘tree for life’ present packages are the gift that keeps on giving and look set to be a real must-have this Christmas.
In addition, many of The Carbon Manager’s trees are planted in the UK by youngsters from the Challenger Trust who help disadvantaged young people gain life skills and employment prospects. The gift packages include an educational DVD film of the planting site and even a unique pass code that when entered generates a planting certificate which can be personalised with the receiver’s name. You can even visit your tree!
So whether you are a company that wishes to take its environmental corporate responsibilities seriously or an individual consumer that wishes to take a green stand, it is clear that the issue of carbon emissions is something we can’t afford to ignore but that there is a practical way in which we can all do our bit to safeguard the environment for future generations.
